The unconditional love of a dog

It’s early and it’s quiet. The best time of the day. It’s my time. Time to reflect, connect, and realign. I open the door and two bundles of love race through the door. Full of excitement and joy, bringing an immediate smile to my face... these beautiful creatures treat me as though I am just the most wonderful human around. (Don’t stop!)

How is it that they are always happy to see me, how do they hold all this unconditional love for me? I prepare the coffee and give them their food. You’d think the lab would desert me at this point as he’d received something that might just trump his love for me... but yet they both still come sit right next to me for morning cuddles. Then they become peaceful, as I do for my morning routine. Sleeping close by, ready for me to stroke them.

Is this how God feels about me? Is this what my Lord wants from me every morning? Huge excitement for this quiet time to come into the Lord’s presence? Time to be fed by the word to sustain me for the day, realign me, reconnect me? Quietly resting in His/Her presence. Does God smile when I plonk myself right next to Him/Her? I’m pretty sure God loves it as much as I do. Enjoy your quiet time, my friends. It’s a blessing.
